Day 48

Tonight our Squadron Social was to paint Kokeshi Dolls. This one is for Emma for her first birthday next month.

"The Kokeshi was a simple wooden toy for the children who belonged to the farming households that predominated in the northeastern provinces of Japan about 150 years ago. It became much more than a toy as the countryside developed culturally, however, and refined, sophisticated pieces are now produced by Kokeshi craftsmen.
